I moved to Glasgow from the east coast in 1990 to embark on my nursing career and qualified as an RMN in 1993 from Western College of Nursing, based in Gartnavel Royal Hospital. I worked there as a staff nurse and subsequently as a Ward Manager in an acute admissions unit. My experience in mental health nursing is mostly in the acute setting although I have worked in a rehabilitation unit and have experience of care of the older adult. I joined the mental health team in GCU in April 2008 after 4 years as a Practice Education Facilitator for the Mental Health Partnerships. During my career I have achieved a BSc Professional Development and an MSc in Health Care Education, which allows me to register as a Teacher with the NMC, I am also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. My particular area of interest in the field of mental health is suicide and self harm and am fortunate to be a trainer in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
